Causes of Horse Wobblers’ Syndrome

It is not uncommon for horses to develop wobblers’ syndrome, but it is important to provide adequate treatment as soon as possible to get them out of that condition. Even though horse owners would not feel comfortable seeing their most cherished animals staggering while walking and feeling pain, horses may experience this condition sooner or later in their lifetime. Equine wobblers syndrome is a condition where a horse could not be able to co-ordinate his steps leading to an unstable movement going from one side to another.

It is a condition that can easily be noticed and the treatment is usually provided by a Vet who has a good knowledge of the cervical vertebral myelopathy. When a horse is attack by wobblers syndrome, he will find it difficult to move and prefer to remain in a sitting position. There are known causes of this condition and could be traced to weak limbs without enough strength to move the horse smoothly from his position.

Sometimes, wobblers syndrome in horses can be scary, especially on the part of owners who are not familiar with this condition, but there are effective treatments available to bring the horses back to their normal conditions. Equine wobbler’s syndrome comes with some clinical signs that can easily be detected by everyone around the horse. Apart from unsteady movement of the animal when he gaits, his weak limbs can cause crashing when trying to trot. It is always important to suspect wobblers syndrome when a horse prefer to remain sitting instead of standing on his feet.

Sometimes, people get confused between horse lameness and wobblers syndrome probably because they both prevent a horse from moving smoothly. However, the treatment of equine wobblers syndrome seems not complicated and doesn't take much time to be completed. Some of the causes of horse wobblers’ syndrome include narrowing of vertebral canal, spinal cord compression and too much pressure on the joints and ligaments.
